Christmas

Happy New Year from all of us in Room 1.

We had lots of fun in December with the lead up to Christmas. Our highlight was 'The Nativity Play'. All three Junior Infant classes put on a show for parents. Our play was called 'The Sleepy Shepherd'. We practised every day for one month. It was a very busy time as we had 7 songs to learn. Each song had lots of actions to remember. We did ourselves proud on the day.

Have a look at us in action........

We recorded our performance of 'The Sleepy Shepherd'. We visited Room 3 where all three classes watched back on our play. This was really fun as we could see ourselves singing. The speaking parts were so loud and clear and we were very proud.

Teacher read a story to us called 'The Christmas Story' and we drew pictures in our copies. It is a really lovely story about the baby Jesus.

We are great little artists in Room 1-check out some of the Christmas art we made in December. It involved cutting, pasting, drawing, painting and using clay. We used lots of glitter-it was very messy but we had fun!

In Aistear, we set up a role-play corner called 'Santa's Workshop'. We dressed up as Santa, Mrs, Claus, Santa's Little Helpers and Rudolf. We were very busy making toys for all the little children all over the world. We wrote letters to Santa and posted them into 'Santa's Letter Box' Our Elf on the Shelf 'Twinkle' kept an eye on us each day and reported back to Santa in the North Pole. She had good news for him everyday:)

Food Glorious Food

In November, we learned a lot about food and where certain foods come from. We now know that some fruits grow on trees and some vegetables grow in the ground-some vegetables are root and others are leafy. It is important to eat lots of fruit and vegetables to grow big and strong-we talked about foods that are good for us and not so good for us. Have a look at this journey through photographs.....we hope you enjoy!!!

We tasted lots of different fruits......apple, banana, orange, pear, strawberry, pineapple, grapes, mango, blueberries, raspberries, lemon and even the pomegranate. Our favourite were the strawberries. They taste delicious. The lemon was yucky!

We painted fruits from observation-some fruits have skin we must peel and others must be washed before we eat them. Fruits have lots of different shapes and feels-some are smooth and others are rough like the pineapple.

We drew as many fruits as we could remember. Look at all the lovely colours,

Vegetables

Carrots, Peas and Broccoli,
Vegetables are good for me.
For my snack and in my lunch,
Veggie sticks are great to munch.
Carrots, Peas and Broccoli,
Vegetables are good for me.

Teacher brought in lots of vegetables for us to look at and feel. We had never heard of some of these vegetables before such as the courgette, aubergine and sweet potato. We eat vegetables every night for our dinner as they are important for helping us to grow. They are healthy foods.

We drew as many vegetables as we could think of-like fruit, they have lots of different colours.

Can you recognise any of these vegetables?........

We are learning to write some of our letters but it is important that we have the correct pencil grip so we even practised drawing and writing some fruits and vegetables as a morning activity.

We sorted food into tow sets-healthy and unhealthy.

We are little artists in the making....check out our 'Fruit People'.

Trick or Treat

On return to school after mid-term, it was great to hear all the wonderful news from the boys and girls as to what they got up to over the break. They all had different news to share but there was one thing they all had in common-trick or treating. Check out the many different characters we dressed up as. Our highlight was getting lots of sweets of course

We are spooktastic!!!

We are having a spooktacular time learning all about Halloween. We became witch's in our classroom and made special potions for the ghosts and goblins. The green slime bubbled in the cauldron and we stirred in the ingredients with a magic stick. The ingredients were disgusting-they consisted of frogs legs, snake poison  and spider slime. It was really smelly-we bet the ghosts and goblins enjoyed it.

Here is the evidence of the creepy creatures we needed for our recipe.......

Our school transformed into a monster village.....we tiptoed through it-we were terrified that the monsters would wake up. We were super brave that day......we can take on anything now!!!

Getting to know our school

We have been learning all about Scoil Mhuire this month. Teacher brought us on a tour of the school-we visited Mary in the office, we held on to the bannisters as we walked up to the top corridor where all the big girls work really hard. We said hello to the girls in 6th class and Ms. McCarthy, their teacher. We sang nursery rhymes and they sang for us too. We measured ourselves against the big girls-they are so tall. We can't wait to grow and be like them one day! Ms. Burke-Heneghan was very busy at a meeting-we hope to visit her in her office again soon.

Have a look at our adventure.......

We are now at home in 'Room 1'-we know the room inside out at this stage-everything has a place in the room and we have become experts at tidying up. We love when we see our name in the 'happy face' and it makes us happy when our group get stars for good behaviour.

We are little artists in the making.....look at our pictures of our classroom!

John Kelly came to visit.....

We have been busy learning all about school this month.....a very important man came to visit us in Room 1, that is our caretaker John Kelly. He spoke to us about the jobs he does around the school  and the tools he needs to carry out such jobs.

Have fun looking at our pictures with John...

We also drew pictures John and tools he uses to fix things, such as-the hammer, pliers, spanner, stanley blade, measuring tape. John always carries a set of keys with him for every room in the school (in case we ever got locked out)...

Awesome Autumn

Awesome Autumn

In October, we learned all about Autumn and the changes that occur. The leaves change colour and fall from the trees to the ground. We went on an Autumn walk and had fun finding conkers, acorns, berries and lots more. Our favourite part was listening to the noise of  the leaves on the ground as we kicked our feet in them.

Have a look at some pictures we took on our walk.....

Have a look at some of the lovely pictures we drew in our copies.......
Autumn winds begin to blow,
Coloured leaves fall fast and slow,
Twirling, whirling, all around,
Till at last, they touch the ground.

Fun with Phonics!!!

We are busy learning new letter names and sounds each week. We use the 'Jolly Phonics' programme which makes our learning fun. We are really good at singing the Jolly songs.

We even had a go at blending sounds to make words.....

Our sponsored walk to Corkagh Park

 Corkagh Park

On Friday 30th September, we walked from school all the way to Corkagh Park. We had help from the big girls in 5th class-they really looked after us and helped us to cross the roads. Have a look at the fun we had when we arrived at the park-our favourite part was the playground.

Our adventure starts here

Welcome to our class blog. Here you will have access to everything that goes on behind the classroom door. We hope you enjoy watching us grow as we learn new and exciting things everyday.

Making friends

Our first month in Junior Infants was so much fun. We enjoyed making new friends as we played with each other during Aistear. Have a look at how busy we were.
