Spring has sprung

In March, we learned all about changes that occur in the Spring time....baby animals are born, buds grow on the trees, days are getting longer, animals are coming out of hibernation and flowers are blossoming. We went on a Spring walk to observe all these wonderful changes. Have a look at our little adventure....

We checked in on our onions that we planted in 'The Secret Garden' back in November. John Kelly, our caretaker is taking care of them and checking in on their growth. The stalks have appeared but we will need more sun in order for them to grow. They will be ready to pick in the Summer time.

Seachtaine na Gaeilge

During Seachtaine na Gaeilge, we performed in a 'ceolchoirm' in the school hall. We sang a song called 'Chuaigh Mé go dtí an Bhfeirm' and we had special actions for each verse. We also did a rhyme called 'Dhá Éinín Deasa'. The concert was lots of fun and we listened to all the other classes perform to songs and rhymes. We all sang together at the end to the pop song 'Saoraí Spraoí'.

Have a look at us in action.....

Travel and transport

In February, we learned all about vehicles and different modes of transport. We learned about transport long ago and we sorted vehicles into old and new. We set up an 'Airport' in our role-play area. We had a special visitor this month-Melissa's mammy works in the airport and she spoke to the three Junior Infant classes about everything that happens in the airport.

During Aistear, we engaged in 'free painting' of vehicles, we constructed vehicles in Junk Art and got into character in the airport.

Here is a rocket and some free painting in action.....

We drew pictures of a car, bus, train and aeroplane in our copies this month. We even wrote the words beside each picture.

The Train

The Aeroplane

We drew pictures of our journey to school and we included all the buildings, parks and vehicles we see a long the way. We are very observant at taking in the world around us.

World Book Day

We celebrated 'World Book Day' on Thursday 2nd March. We celebrated this day by having a 'pyjama day' in Scoil Mhuire-even teacher wore a onesie. We brought in our favourite book, a blankie and a torch. We shared our books with our friends and the big girls from 5th class came down and read with us. Teacher brought us to a room upstairs filled with cushions-we brought our torch and blankie with us so we could read in the dark-this was our favourite part of the day. We went home with a book voucher to use in selected book stores-don't forget to use them!!

How cool do we look in our pyjamas....have a look!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day from all the children in Room One. We really enjoyed telling teacher about how much love we have for our families and friends. Here are some of the lovely pictures we drew-they included people we love, love hearts, presents, flowers...We also made 'love bugs' to show our mammies and daddies just how much we love them.

Grandparents Day

We had some very special visitors come to our school this month-our grandparents. Some grannies and grandads came to visit our classroom-they played games with us and we were proud to show them what goes on behind the red door. We sang songs for them and they old us stories about when they were in school a long time ago-they didn't get to have as much fun as we do now!

Winter

A little taste of Winter......

We have had a very cold January-it was a good time to discuss all those winter words in Room 1-cold, snow, raining, freezing, frost, bitter, winter woollies, snowflakes, snowmen, ice, short days, dark nights etc.

One cold day in January, we set out on a 'Winter Walk' around the school. We made sure to wrap up that day. We put on our coats, jackets, woolly hats, gloves and scarves to keep warm. We hope you enjoy the pictures-you will see that there are no leaves on the trees, plenty of sticks on the ground and some snowdrops under the horse chestnut tree.

We drew from observation-we are becoming little artists in Room 1.
